<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 10pt;">That our support for 40 Days for Life may be rooted in love as witnesses to the world of the love of God for all humanity from conception to natural death.</span></span></div>

<b><span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 10pt;">Scripture:</span></span></b><span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 10pt;"></span></span></div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 10pt;">If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. If I give away all I have, and if I deliver my body to be burned, but have not love, I gain nothing. (1 Cor 13:1-3)</span></span></div>

<b><span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 10pt;">Reflection:</span></span></b><span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 10pt;"></span></span></div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 10pt;">This is St Paul’s exhortation on love from his first letter to the Corinthians. It is very popular at weddings and is often equated with romantic love. But when St Paul speaks here of love, the original Greek version tells us that it is not romantic love he speaks of, eros, but rather agape, fraternal love or charity. This love can be described as simply wanting to ‘will the good of another.’ It is a love that is associated not with any self-interest or personal gain; rather the sole motive of agape is to strive to reflect a fraction of God’s unfathomable love for all his people as we are all made in his image and likeness.</span></span></div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 10pt;">That is what we bring to our vigils and prayers for the unborn at all times and especially during these 40 Days for Life. All our faithfulness to the Church and reasoned sensible arguments will stand for nothing unless they are rooted in love, that is; our desire to will the good of the women, their unborn children and the protestors and hostile passers-by that we may encounter; and that good is of course life itself.</span></span></div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
<b><span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 10pt;">Prayer:</span></span></b><span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 10pt;"></span></span></div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 10pt;">God our Father, As we pray and witness to the sanctity of human life with our physical presence on the streets ensure our hearts remain firmly rooted in love for all those people we encounter. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen</span></span></div>

</div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 10pt;">For young people to know that they are made in God’s image and likeness and belong to Him, and so to strive to live with pure hearts and chaste love.</span></span></div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
<b><span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 10pt;">Scripture:</span></span></b><span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 10pt;"></span></span></div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 10pt;">‘Do you not realise that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, and whom you have received from God? You are not your own property, then; you were bought at a price. Therefore use your body for the glory of God.’ (1 Cor 6:19-20)</span></span></div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
<b><span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 10pt;">Reflection:</span></span></b></div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 10pt;">Young people, like all of us, want to belong, because belonging makes us feel loved. We are made for love, which is an experience of the body, as well as the soul. So, naturally, we seek love and we seek to belong with our body, as well as our soul.</span></span></div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 10pt;">We don't need to shout about how over-sexualised our culture is. Pornography and teen-sexual activity have become normalised and an accepted part of the scene. We know the damage this causes and the loneliness and darkness young people can find themselves in. We don't need to shout about that.</span></span></div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 10pt;">What we do need to shout about is the truth that there is a real love that satisfies, for which our body and soul longs. The love of God: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.</span></span></div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 10pt;">We need to shout about our Father in heaven, who knows us by name and to whom we belong.</span></span></div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 10pt;">We need to shout about our Saviour, Jesus, who has bought us with His own blood and forgives every sin through the sacrament of reconciliation.</span></span></div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 10pt;">We need to shout about the power of the Holy Spirit - who lives within us through baptism, and makes it possible to be pure in our intentions and actions.</span></span></div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 10pt;">We need to shout out the invitation to real love, to mercy and healing when we have fallen and have forgotten who we really are and to whom we belong.</span></span></div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 10pt;">When I learn the value and dignity of my own life, when I learn the truth that I have been bought with a price and I am God's, then I come to know the value and dignity of every life and I desire to glorify God with my body.</span></span></div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
<b><span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 10pt;">Prayer:</span></span></b></div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 10pt;">God our Father, We pray that young people will hear the message of your love; the love for which they thirst. We pray for all who promote chastity and all involved in sex education in the home, school and parish.</span></span></div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 10pt;">Lord, may your Church boldly proclaim the Gospel of life, that our young people will come to know that they have been bought with the blood of Jesus and belong to you. Help all of us to use our bodies to bring you glory in chaste and holy relationships and thus be spared the confusion and hurt of sexual immorality; especially that which leads to the tragedy of abortion. Amen.</span></span></div>

That all may come to recognize and treasure the Image of God in which every human being is created at the moment of conception.</div>
</span><div style="text-align: -webkit-auto;">
<span style="background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0);"><br /></span></div>

<span style="background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0); text-align: -webkit-left;"><div style="text-align: -webkit-auto;">
So God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. (Genesis 2:27-28)</div>
</span><div style="text-align: -webkit-auto;">
<span style="background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0);"><br /></span></div>
<span style="background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0); text-align: -webkit-left;"><div style="text-align: -webkit-auto;">
<b>Reflection</b>:</div>
</span><div style="text-align: -webkit-auto;">
<span style="background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0);"><br /></span></div>
<span style="background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0); text-align: -webkit-left;"><div style="text-align: -webkit-auto;">
The value of the human person lies not in the achievements, status or "viability" of any individual. It is something intrinsic to our human nature, and is to be found in every man, woman and child at every stage of existence from conception in the womb until the separation of body and soul at death, and beyond the grave into eternity. Its source is the image of God that is imprinted on our immortal souls. This divine image makes each and every innocent human life inviolable and truly sacred to God.</div>
</span><div style="text-align: -webkit-auto;">
<span style="background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0);"><br /></span></div>
<span style="background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0); text-align: -webkit-left;"><div style="text-align: -webkit-auto;">
To worship God in spirit and in truth, we must always seek to honour that image that is emblazoned on the soul of every human being regardless of age, religion or nationality. Minister to our neighbour, and we minister to the Lord - in whose image our neighbour was created: "Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brethren, you did it to me." (Matthew 25:40). On this we shall be judged. To minister to the "least" - to the poor, the needy and the vulnerable - pays special honour to the Creator.</div>
</span><div style="text-align: -webkit-auto;">
<span style="background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0);"><br /></span></div>
<span style="background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0); text-align: -webkit-left;"><div style="text-align: -webkit-auto;">
No-one is more poor, more needy, and more worthy of our protection than the child in the mother's womb. When we serve the interests of the unborn through prayer and faithful witness to the sanctity of these little ones, we can be sure that we do great honour to the Creator.</div>
</span><div style="text-align: -webkit-auto;">

<span style="background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0); text-align: -webkit-left;"><div style="text-align: -webkit-auto;">
Heavenly Father, You created man in the beauty of your own image when you formed him from the dust of the ground and breathed into him the breath of life. Grant that all in the world will come to recognize this image in the heart and soul of every human being, and especially in the unborn child, so that in ministering to the least of our brethren we may pay honour to your glory. We ask this through Christ Our Lord. Amen</div>

<span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 10pt;">Our intention today is to pray for those men and women facing the impact of abortion. That they are able to courageously face their pain, and experience deep healing in their soul. We pray that these people will, one day, in accordance with God’s will, be able to tell others about God’s miraculous healing in their lives.</span></span></div>

<b><span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 10pt;">Reflection:</span></span></b><span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 10pt;"> </span></span></div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 10pt;">Today, we reflect on the thousands, more likely millions, of men and women, who have been impacted by the death of children through abortion. They face the responsibility of having made that decision, the pain and regret afterwards and the hopelessness that often follows. Some have felt suicidal, others numb, whilst others long deeply and mournfully for their children who are no more. The pain and conflicting emotions may dwell deep below the surface of their lives. Today it is known as Post-abortion Stress. We also reflect on Jesus, to whom many came for healing, when he walked this earth. We remember in particular the woman who touched His cloak, He asked, “Who touched me?” not in a condemning way, but He knew power had gone from Him. He told her that she had been healed by her faith in Him. She was liberated, restored and set free from her affliction. We want men and women who suffer from the aftermath of abortion, to come to Jesus, to be liberated by Him, and restored by his loving hand. We know that by His Holy Spirit, the deepest of healing can come, and that no one is excluded from His loving touch.</span></span></div>
<div>

<div>
</div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 10pt;">Heavenly Father, Lord of Life, and Comforter of our deepest pain, we come to you today. We worship at your feet, we call upon your Name, and ask you to bring your comfort, healing and restoration to all those who are afflicted with the pain of abortion. We pray for their souls, their inmost being, that you would answer their cries for help, and liberate them, that they in turn will have opportunity to tell of your great love.</span></span></div>

<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 10pt;"> </span></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 10pt;">That our hearts may be purified of all judgment and personal criticism, even of those involved in the abortion industry.</span></span></div>

<b><span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 10pt;">Scripture:</span></span></b><span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 10pt;"></span></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 10pt;"> </span></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 10pt;">‘There is one lawgiver and judge, he who is able to save and destroy. But who are you that you judge your neighbour?’ (James 4:12)</span></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 10pt;"> </span></span></div>
<div>
<b><span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 10pt;">Reflection:</span></span></b><span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 10pt;"></span></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 10pt;"> </span></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 10pt;">Abortion is a particularly vile expression of the culture of death, and of the hatred that the Evil One has for the most innocent. We hate abortion from the depths of our hearts, but how easy it is for us to pass from hatred of the sin to judgment of the sinner. Then we soon find that, rather than overcoming hatred by love, we have been infected with it ourselves.</span></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 10pt;"> </span></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 10pt;">Only by regular, deep communion with Jesus Christ in prayer can we hope to purify our hearts of the spirit of judgment which he warns us against, because only in him is found that perfect combination of mercy and justice. Even his fierce denunciations of the Pharisees are full of the purest love for them and a desire that they be converted.</span></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 10pt;"> </span></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 10pt;">As with everything else, he will give us that purity of intention if we earnestly ask him for it, convinced that we cannot achieve it by our own efforts but by his grace alone. Nevertheless, he will normally only give it to us if we ask with perseverance.</span></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 10pt;"> </span></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 10pt;"> </span></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 10pt;">In all this he has given us a great ally in his blessed Mother. In the heart of The Most Holy Virgin, as the Curé of Ars says, there is nothing but mercy. May she give us hearts like hers as we confront this great evil.</span></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 10pt;"> </span></span></div>
<div>
<b><span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 10pt;">Prayer:</span></span></b><span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 10pt;"></span></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 10pt;"> </span></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 10pt;">Father, you make your sun to shine on just and unjust alike, and you call us to be perfect as you are perfect. Take us beyond the limitations of our flawed human nature, and fill us with that spirit of humility which enabled your Son to confront evil with pure love. We beseech you to have mercy on sinner and victim alike, because we are all sinners in daily need of your grace. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen</span></span></div>

<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 10pt;"> </span></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 10pt;">That all the campaigns across the UK will be blessed with God's grace and mercy; that there are enough prayer volunteers; that all volunteers are loving, kind and compassionate and that many women choose life for their babies.</span></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 10pt;"> </span></span></div>
<div>
<b><span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 10pt;">Scripture:</span></span></b><span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 10pt;"></span></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 10pt;"> </span></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 10pt;">‘All things were made through Him and without Him nothing came to be. Whatever has come to be, found life in Him, life which for men was also light. Light that shines in the dark: light that darkness could not overcome.’ (John 1 v 3-5)</span></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 10pt;"> </span></span></div>
<div>
<b><span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 10pt;">Reflection:</span></span></b><span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 10pt;"></span></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 10pt;"> </span></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 10pt;">As we enter Lent we are encouraged to think of Jesus in the wilderness preparing Himself for His coming ministry before eventually giving himself up to His agonizing abandonment and death on a cross.</span></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 10pt;"> </span></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 10pt;">This world may seem at present for us a very dark and sometimes lonely place and we may have much to endure but this is itself is a sign of hope - suffering is the preparation for love and joy to come. God uses the darkness to make His little candles of love shine even brighter. We are His little candles. No matter how small our light may be, whether it seems to be unnoticed or unfruitful, we must keep it burning and not let it be extinguished, for our faith tells us love is never wasted.</span></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 10pt;"> </span></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 10pt;">May we love enough to keep up our prayers and fasting, may we love enough to witness in public to others, may we love enough to show only kindness and compassion to those using abortion facilities and those who work there. May we never stop loving with a real love - a love based on faith not feelings.</span></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 10pt;"> </span></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 10pt;">Mother Teresa once wrote: 'The light you give must be so pure, the love you love with must be so burning - the faith you believe with must be so convincing - that in seeing you they really see only Jesus'.</span></span></div>

<span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 10pt;"> </span></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 10pt;">Lord, we ask You to bless us with the gift of your love in all that we do during these 40 days. May it be the source of all our actions and govern our every thought. May Your love be imprinted so deeply on our hearts that no matter what hardships we face, our response will only ever be love, a love that will conquer the fears of all meet.</span></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: 10pt;"> </span></span></div>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: Helvetica; text-align: justify;">
<span lang="EN-US"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;">As I walk home across the park there is a carpet of brown dead leaves on the grass for the first time.<span> </span>Our Indian summer is over and autumn and decay are in the air.<span> </span>There is, as the book of Quoleth told us last week, a time for everything and there is no fighting this, not even after a pretty miserable summer.<span> </span></span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: Helvetica; text-align: justify;">
<span lang="EN-US"><span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: Helvetica; text-align: justify;">
<span lang="EN-US"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;">I find it interesting that in an age which claims to have rediscovered the importance of being at one with nature, respecting the environment, learning to attune to its inner rhythms and celebrating our essential earthiness, there can be quite such a blind spot when it comes to the most primal life force of all.<span> </span>I would bet a great deal of money that many of the “Pro-Choice” activists confronting the Forty Days for Life prayer vigil outside the British Pregnancy Advisory Service in Bedford Square last Tuesday would have strong views on defending the planet but can somehow square these with the destruction they wish to wreak in the womb.<span> </span>It wouldn’t be surprising. It fits into the new morality, one of the mantras of which is the importance of choice.</span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: Helvetica; text-align: justify;">
<span lang="EN-US"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: Helvetica; text-align: justify;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;"><span lang="EN-US">It seems that choice is the only moral absolute.<span> </span>The object of that choice or even regretting the choice you have made, as something like 75% of women who have had abortions tell us they do, are secondary to the all-conquering right to choose.<span> </span>Since choice trumps ethics and since my choice and your choice may be for different outcomes, genuine “Pro-Choice” activists, you might think would follow the logic of their position and respect those who want to give women choices by proposing alternatives, but if Tuesday night was anything to go by, apparently the more “Pro-Choice” you are the more you have to silence and intimidate the opposition.<span> </span>The mood of the people confronting Forty Days for Life was very ugly.<span> </span>They were determined to drown out the prayer with shrieks and chanting, horns and whistles.<span> </span>They threw eggs at us at one point, apparently. I am not being pious when I say I just didn’t notice.<span> </span>They shouted some pretty vicious personal insults against por-lifers, against mothers, men, Catholics, priests . . . the kind of things that in another context would undoubtedly constitute hate crimes.<span> </span>They hurled abuse at Our Lord and Our Lady and four-letter words at those keeping vigil.<span> </span>None of this will be reported.<span> </span>The media is only interested in painting the peaceful prayer vigil of <i>Forty Days for Life</i></span><span lang="EN-US"> as extremists and political activists. They responded only by continuing to pray the rosary and then the Stations of the Cross.<span> </span>I thought of the story of Karol Wotyla when the Rhapsodic Theatre was meeting in Krakow to resist the destruction of Polish Culture.<span> </span>He was reciting a speech from a Polish epic when the Gestapo filled the square outside with cars with loudspeakers on their roofs.<span> </span>They broadcast news of fresh Nazi victories.<span> </span>They entirely drowned out what he was saying, but he went on declaiming his epic.<span> </span>That’s what the crowd outside the clinic did.<span> </span>They kept on praying, so that when the furious screaming and insults stopped for a moment there was a calm presence beneath saying “And blessed is the fruit of they womb, Jesus.”<span> </span></span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: Helvetica; text-align: justify;">
<span lang="EN-US"><span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: Helvetica; text-align: justify;">
<span lang="EN-US"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;">We should stop referring to such people as “Pro-Choice.” It is an Orwellian hijacking of language, for their choice does not extend to allowing someone to express the opinion that abortion is a mistaken choice.<span> </span>If, as they screamed at us, pro-Lifers have no right to seek to impose that choice on others, by what right do they claim to uphold choice, let alone impose their own choice on their unborn children with fatal results to those most vulnerable members of society and deeply injurious consequences to women themselves?</span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: Helvetica; text-align: justify;">
<span lang="EN-US"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: Helvetica; text-align: justify;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;"><span lang="EN-US"><span> </span>“There’s a party in my uterus and you’re not invited.” they yelled gleefully.<span> </span>Like the unseen demons in Blessed John Henry Newman’s “Dream of Gerontius,” there was coming up from somewhere deep beneath the gleeful bragging a deep desperation; this was not joy but despair which voiced this appalling thought.<span> </span>“Some party,” I wanted to respond, “organized by surgeons, hideously invasive of a sacred space, traumatic and determined above all to see that your child is unwelcome there and must be fatally ejected.”<span> </span>But I didn’t, partly because the tactics of<i>Forty Days for Life</i></span><span lang="EN-US">, whatever you read in the Guardian, are entirely peaceful and non-confrontational, and because fools rush in where angels fear to tread.<span> </span>These are men and women deeply traumatized<span> </span>by abortion –their own or those they have complicity in, or those for whom they were made complicit by ties of love<span> </span>- brothers and sisters, children, grandchildren they were never allowed to know.<span> </span>The trauma goes on feeding off itself as they scream abuse and hatred to prove that they have not been damaged by abortion, that it’s no big deal, that it’s a consumer choice without consequences.<span> </span>It is impossible not to feel sorry for them, despite the increasing ugliness and intolerance of their tactics.<span> </span></span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: Helvetica; text-align: justify;">
<span lang="EN-US"><span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: Helvetica; text-align: justify;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;"><span lang="EN-US">For the kinds of things they were shouting are the desperate projections of their hatred of themselves, their anger with their choice and their grief. “Keep your Eucharist off my uterus,” “Keep your rosaries off my ovaries,” were their other favourite taunts.<span> </span>These combine the prejudice of old-fashioned protestant No-Popery with something deeply pathetic.<span> </span>It is in their own imaginative landscape that there lurks the terror of a strange and irrational connection between the Eucharist and their wombs or the rosary of the Mother of God and their reproductive organs.<span> </span>At a level below the rational and conscious they know that something which ought to be beautiful and life-giving has become something which feels untouchable, cut off from the realm of the spiritual, from the sacred.<span> </span>If they were alone and still for long enough the I think the cry would be “There is a wake in my uterus, a crying emptiness and I am protecting myself from its silence and its sorrow with anger and activism.”<span> </span>That’s why the sisterhood must band together for this show of strength. That’s also why I think this <i>Forty Days for Life</i></span><span lang="EN-US"> campaign is so worthy of support.<span> </span>It literally speaks the mystery of life in Mary’s womb and invokes the name of the child to whom she gave shelter and welcome so that He might bring the infinite power of His paschal love to where it is so desperately needed and so paradoxically feared.</span></span></div>

The central point of our vigil is to pray for an end to abortion and show that that is a love in community that can help a woman to choose life for her unborn child. Since our campaign started in September 2010, we estimate that more than 30 women have chosen life for their unborn children as a result of our campaign through prayer and also through an offer of love, help and support during a difficult time.</div><div style="font-family: arial; font-size: small;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: arial; font-size: small;">We have a statement of peace that sets the tone and ethos of our prayer vigil as a peaceful and prayerful event. Since our campaign started, we have received a very large number of insults and threats. At times, members of the vigil have filmed themselves in order to protect themselves from these threats. We do not encourage anybody to film members of the public during our campaign.</div><div style="font-family: arial; font-size: small;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: arial; font-size: small;">Since 40 days for life started in 2007, there have been 1,633 individual 40 days for life campaigns that have taken place in 422 cities worldwide. 5,045 lives have been spared from abortions during campaigns and 21 abortion facilities have shut down following local 40 Days for Life campaigns.</div><div style="font-family: arial; font-size: small;"><br />

Of course, that is true. But when we think about it more carefully, we realize that in a battle, the gates do not run out into the battlefield to attack the enemy. Rather, they stand still to defend the city from the enemy attacking it. So when the Lord says that the gates of hell will not prevail against the church, who is doing the attacking? It is the church storming the gates!</div><div class="body_text" style="font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; line-height: 16px;">The church, all of God's people in Christ, is called to take the offensive, to run into enemy territory, and to gain ground for Jesus Christ. We do not wait for an invitation; we already have a command. We prepare, but we do not wait for circumstances to be perfect; we already have one who has gone before us.</div><div class="body_text" style="font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; line-height: 16px;">During these 40 days, we have stormed the gates. We have taken the offensive. We have pushed forward the boundaries of the kingdom. And we must keep doing so, in numerous ways. Indeed, the gates of hell will not prevail. The gates of falsehood will flee in the presence of truth. The gates of sin will melt in the presence of grace. The gates of death will fall in the presence of the church, the People of Life!</div><div class="body_text" style="font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; line-height: 16px;"><strong>Prayer:</strong></div><div class="body_text" style="font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; line-height: 16px;">Father, we praise you. We have been freed from the kingdom of darkness, and therefore we can bear witness to your Kingdom of Light. <div>3/ New medical and professional plans of providing alternatives to abortion</div><br />

Every victory we have when an act of abortion is prevented is prophetic of that day when death itself will be definitively conquered. Every triumph of grace in this world, whereby someone is brought to see the value of life and given the strength to welcome it, is a breaking into our history of that definitive future in which the old order of things will have passed, and all things will be made new.</div><div class="body_text" style="font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; line-height: 16px;">As pro-life warriors, we must keep our eyes fixed on heaven, and our hearts secure in the hope that the day is coming when all evil will be conquered. It is the future that shapes the present; it is victory that informs the battle; it is the destination that determines the journey.</div><div class="body_text" style="font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; line-height: 16px;">Daily, we are called to reflect on heaven. When we weep, we are to think of the day when every tear will be wiped away. When we face the destructive power of death, we are to think of the day when death is swallowed up in victory. When we labor against abortion, we are to think of the day when we will have the rest and peace of the final triumph of life. Heaven is as real as earth, and its joys will be as real as our present sorrows.</div><div class="body_text" style="font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; line-height: 16px;"><strong>Prayer:</strong></div><div class="body_text" style="font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; line-height: 16px;">Father, you are the God of hope. Your word fills us with the vision of the world to come, when every tear will be wiped away, and death will be no more. Father, how we need that hope, how we are strengthened by that vision! Keep our hearts focused on heaven, and diligent in the labors of earth. As we struggle against the culture of death, root our souls in the assurance of victory. We pray through Christ our Lord. <div>With just one day left, please sign up to the <a href="http://vigilcalendar.com/london/login/login_page" linktype="1" rel="nofollow" shape="rect" style="color: blue;" target="_blank" track="on">vigil!</a></div><br />
<div>Please pray and consider how you can make a life changing difference to our community through pro-life prayers and work!</div><br />

<div>This is a picture of Josie below. This baby was in real danger of being aborted earlier in the year, but thanks to some support and encouragement by family and 40 days for life volunteers, she was born just the other day. Praise God! Your prayers and support DO make a LIFE CHANGING difference!</div><br />

Perhaps you have been grieved by various trials during your commitment to 40 days. The attacks of the enemy come in many forms -- difficulties in relationships, finances, health. Or maybe you are physically and mentally exhausted and have been marking off the days on your calendar, eagerly waiting for Day 40.</div><div class="body_text" style="font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; line-height: 16px;">Consider these trials in light of God's plan for you. The Apostle Paul understood the big picture when he said in Romans 8:18, "For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us." This is our Hope and our victory. Let us rejoice in the opportunity to give that Hope to others in our path.</div><div class="body_text" style="font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; line-height: 16px;"><strong>Prayer:</strong></div><div class="body_text" style="font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; line-height: 16px;">Dear Heavenly Father, We sing to You a new song, for You have done marvelous things. Forgive us when we allow circumstances to defeat us. You give power to the faint and You increase strength in those who have no might. We rest in You dear Lord, and ask You to empower us again for Your service as You work out Your plan for us and through us. Jesus is on the cross. He has been killed by his enemies; he is off the scene. But that's because it's Friday. Sunday's comin'!</div><div class="body_text" style="font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; line-height: 16px;">It's Friday. Abortionists continue their work 3,300 times a day, tearing off the arms and legs of little babies and crushing their heads. But that's because it's Friday. Sunday's comin'! It's Friday. Pro-abortion groups receive blood money from billionaires who are as deceived as they are. But that's because it's Friday. Sunday's comin'!</div><div class="body_text" style="font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; line-height: 16px;">It's Friday. Liars attempt to speak for all women and hide the pain of abortion, and ignore the evidence of how it harms women, and call abortion a blessing. But that's because it's Friday. Sunday's comin'! It's Friday. People of hardened hearts guard the clinics and usher desperate women in to have their abortions, while keeping them from the pro-life people who want to give them hope. But that's because it's Friday. Sunday's comin'!</div><div class="body_text" style="font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; line-height: 16px;">Hope does not mean that we ignore or minimize the evils around us. It means, rather, that we see the whole picture, which is that evil is conquered because of what happened one Sunday morning. The power of sin and death has been broken by the Resurrection of Christ. We are called to proclaim, celebrate, and serve that victory, waiting in joyful hope for Christ's return and the full flowering of the Culture of Life! Indeed, Sunday's comin'!</div><div class="body_text" style="font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; line-height: 16px;"><strong>Prayer:</strong></div><div class="body_text" style="font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; line-height: 16px;">Lord, fill your people with new hope. Make us vessels of hope to all around us, especially to those who minister in the pro-life movement, that as we engage in the difficult work ahead, we may experience the peace and joy that come only from you and that nobody can take away from us. We ask this through Christ our Lord, amen.</div><div class="body_text" style="font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; line-height: 16px;"><em>Fr. Frank Pavone<br />

<br />
At the root of both scourges is a particular strain of evil, the most virulent that the devil possesses. It is the kind of evil that works to take away the humanity of human beings. It whispers in the ears of one group of people that a certain other group of people are something less than human, less worthy of life because of race or religion or physical ability or age. And once this is accomplished, once a group of people have been thoroughly dehumanized in the mind of their society, evil can run wild while the populace yawns.<br />
<br />
From personal experience, I came to see why it is so very important to always be on the lookout for this most insidious, malignant type of evil that spawned both the Holocaust and the modern abortion movement: because it is the kind that allows normal people like you and me to look at the corpses of our fellow human beings, to know that they're piling up around us, and shrug."<br />

<div>With just 4 days left of our campaign. There are still many lives to be saved during this amazing time! <br />
More than 417 lives have been spared during this 40 days for life campaign have been spared worldwide, and these are just the ones that we know about! We have seen 5 saves during this campaign in London, including one reported on last Saturday and also one on Whitfield Street last Friday.<br />
<br />
Doctors and Priests can save lives here and there during their work, maybe a few times in their lifetime, but we can save lives every day on the streets through preaceful, prayerful activism. How amazing is that!<br />

In spite of the enormity of David's sin -- adultery with Bathsheba and his murder of her husband -- and the utter absence of any personal merit, David in his brokenness, understood the imputed righteousness of God. David's response was not continued guilt over his sins, but praise for his freedom from guilt, and God's power to live life differently.</div><div class="body_text">Once your relationship with God has been restored, your guilt has served its purpose and should no longer be given place in your life. This is true regardless of the sin, including the sin of abortion. As a post-abortive woman, I too struggled with this issue until I realized that punishing and hating myself after receiving God's forgiveness was an insult to God.</div><div class="body_text">It was as though I were minimizing Christ's work on the cross as insufficient to cover my sin. I was denying Him the opportunity to bring glory to His name for the healing and restoration He wanted to do in my life. I was giving victory to the enemy who having lost the battle for my soul, was bent on destroying my testimony as I accepted the continual guilt he heaped on my mind.</div><div class="body_text">It is my joy to continually sing of God's grace rather than give the devil a foothold in my life. Always, before all times, there was God. This particular God -- the God of the Bible, the God of St. John's Gospel -- is different from all other gods. This God is alive and full of life. This God is not the picture of deadness and death, aloneness and isolation. This God is the picture of life, relationship, and unity. For within this God, within this one God, there are three divine persons who live, who love, and who work -- together. This is the glorious mystery of the Trinity. The Trinity means divine life. The Trinity means three, living Persons -- Father, Son, and Holy Spirit -- who relate to each other. The Trinity means mutual love and service among three Persons.</div><div class="body_text" style="font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; line-height: 16px;">The Word was always with God the Father. This Word was, is, and will be the Trinity's second person. The Word is also the Son of God or, as revealed in time, Jesus Christ. God the Father and God the Son live, love, and work for each other. As one, they create "all things" together: the Father creates all things, including all human life, through the Son.</div><div class="body_text" style="font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; line-height: 16px;">So the Father, through the Son, creates all human lives. The little one swimming in his mother's womb, the infant smiling in his father's arms, the child crying in pain in a hospital bed, the energetic teen running another mile, the old man gasping for his last breath -- all were created, at their beginning, by the Father through the Son. No exceptions. Divine life creates human life.</div><div class="body_text" style="font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; line-height: 16px;"><strong>Prayer:</strong></div><div class="body_text" style="font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; line-height: 16px;">O God, may we always be quick to call you Father. And when we call you father, let your Spirit remind us that we, and all people, from their beginning to their last day, are your children. We praise you, Father, that you sent your Son to reveal to the world that all people are His brothers and sisters, that all people are your children. Through Jesus Christ we pray. Amen.</div><div class="body_text" style="font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; line-height: 16px;"><em>Rev. Paul Stallsworth<br />

Pro-life quote of the day:<br />
"Human beings inside the womb are smaller, less developed, and more dependent than human beings outside the womb. These are differences of degree, not differences of kind. We can all point to other people who are bigger, stronger, smarter, or less dependent than we are, but that doesn't make our life any less valuable, or any less deserving of protection."<br />

<div>Another excellent Pro-life conference today which has inspired and lifted the hearts and minds of many participants... resources to follow shortly!</div><br />
<div>Bernadette Smyth from <a href="http://www.preciouslife.com/" linktype="1" rel="nofollow" shape="rect" style="color: blue;" target="_blank" track="on">Precious Life</a> was a true inspiration for our campaign... after 14 years full time working for the Pro-life movement in Northern Ireland there is a huge amount to learn from her tremendous work of keeping abortion out of one part of the U.K.!</div><br />
<div>Maybe God is calling YOU to Pro-life action in your local community to rescue lives being led to the slaughter and to inspire those in your local area to bring a positive and upbeat pro-life message! Another British city likely to be added next year! How about YOUR local community?</div><br />

Is this tendency what keeps us, at least in part, from acknowledging that God's care for His sacred creation is paramount in His own mind?</div><div class="body_text" style="font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; line-height: 16px;">The Psalmist speaks of God's handiwork: the heavens, the work of his "fingers," and then points to God's masterpiece - human life. He declares to us that God is mindful of us. God keeps His masterpiece in His thoughts.</div><div class="body_text" style="font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; line-height: 16px;">God, the creator of the awe-inspiring heavens, is not distracted by the tasks before Him. He is not pulled away, as we might be, by thoughts of something "more important." God is paying attention to and attending to His crowning glory, His masterpiece of creation, which cannot be duplicated or replaced, which surpasses the beauty of all other created things - the human being.</div><div class="body_text" style="font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; line-height: 16px;">There is no way to adequately describe how God feels about us as human beings. There are no words to fully portray His love, compassion or desire to be in communion with us. Perhaps, the closest we can come, is to contemplate the thoughts of a mother as she gazes for the first time at her newborn child. God cares for Life. We, as His followers, should take time to consider the life He has created and called upon us to love and protect.</div><div class="body_text" style="font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; line-height: 16px;"><strong>Prayer:</strong></div><div class="body_text" style="font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; line-height: 16px;">Lord, you are the creator of all things. Guide my thoughts to consider your creation in all of its majesty, beauty and holiness. Guide my heart especially to your creation of precious human life. Help me to comprehend how essential life is in your own heart. Teach me to appreciate, love and protect all human life through your son, Jesus Christ our Lord.
